Design Inspiration
This piece is inspired by the wings Icarus (Icaro) used to escape the Labyrinth of Knossos. Commissioned by King Minos, the Labyrinth was designed by the great architect Daedalus (Icarus' father) to confine the Minotaur, a fearsome mythical creature birthed by the Queen. To prevent the secrets of the Labyrinth from being revealed, the king imprisoned Daedalus and Icarus inside it. Daedalus designed two pairs of wings with which they could escape. However, tragedy struck when Icarus, in the frenzy of flight, came so close to the sun that the wax binding his wings melted and he plummeted into the sea.
